The Fall Season in Toronto will open with Christopher Wheeldon’s The Winter’s Tale. A spellbinding adaptation of the Shakespeare play, The Winter’s Tale opened in London last year to rave reviews and will make its North American premiere on November 14, 2015. The Times in London wrote “Christopher Wheeldon has produced the most heartfelt and resonant full-length ballet seen in decades… his greatest triumph.” The same team behind the phenomenal Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland – choreographer Mr. Wheeldon, composer Joby Talbot, designer Bob Crowley and lighting designer Natasha Katz – are the creators of The Winter’s Tale.
Le Petit Prince is both a perfect and a problematic choice. Perfect because the story is already furnished with all the necessary components for a conventional ballet, and problematic because Le Petit Prince is actually a dark and confusing book.
Everybody has a story. If you take the time to ask questions and listen, you might even uncover a piece of dance history. Here is one such gem. Meet Shirley Sommerville.
