Choreographer William Yong proposes a future in which human labour produces energy and the pleasure of movement works to integrate technology into the social sphere. In an unprecedented cross-disciplinary collaboration, Toronto’s Zata Omm Dance Projects, together with researchers at York University and interactive designers at Aesthetec Studio, bring this idea to light in vox:lumen. In more than one way: the kinetic story told on stage is illuminated by power generated by the dancers and renewable sources. vox:lumen is a truly unique production, and the most ambitious of its kind in Canadian dance/theatre history. It’s about the importance of light. It imagines a possible future where we rely on technology to create displays of illumination that frame every human interaction. vox:lumen is about responsibility, adaptability and resilience. Find out what a performance powered by sustainability looks like.
