Over 1200 Aboriginal women have gone missing or have been murdered in Canada over the past 30 years.
Presented by the MAI, Daina Ashbee’s Unrelated expresses the struggle of Aboriginal women through a reconstruction of their identities. Dancers Paige Culley and Areli Moran explore themes of cultural devastation, violence and self-destruction through a movement score manifested through Ashbee’s research of First Nations women’s issues in Canada. Opening night of the world premiere will feature an after show discussion with dance critic Philip Szporer.
Daina Ashbee, a Montréal-based dance artist with Cree Métis and Dutch heritage, shifts her compass northward, beyond the treeline, to awaken an essential part of her emotional fabric, embodiment and essence with Pour.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of Festival TransAmériques, and Montréal-based dancer and choreographer Louise Lecavalier is turning the stage into an imaginary battleground, diving into nine rounds of virtual combat with dancer Robert Abubo.
