This will be the first Trisha Brown Dance Company Intensive to take place in Toronto. Spots will be limited, and those interested can email daniellebaskerville@gmail.com beginning March 1st to register. The workshop will feature a warm up class, followed by a technique and repertory workship. There will be no drop-ins or partial days. All participants must be 18 or older. The workshop will be led by TBDC alum Laurel Jenkins, and supported by the Ontario Arts Council. Laurel Jenkins’ choreography has been presented by REDCAT, Automata, the Getty Center, Show Box LA, Danspace, Berlin’s Performing Presence Festival, and Tokyo’s Sezane Gallery. She choreographed MASS conducted by Gustavo Dudamel for the LA Phil presented at Disney Hall, and for LACDC and The Wooden Floor. Jenkins was a member of the Trisha Brown Dance Company from 2007-2012, dances with Vicky Shick, and performed the role of Ismene in Peter Sellars’ staging of Oedipus Rex conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen. Jenkins is the recipient of an Asian Cultural Council Grant, holds a BA from Sarah Lawrence, and an MFA from UCLA. She is currently an Assistant Professor at Middlebury College in Vermont.
Directed by Jenna Borisevich, For a While was shot in a dance studio on 16mm. It tells a story of unrequited love through dance: a couple shares in a fantasy, but only for a moment.
