First up in this triple bill is Élian Mata’s FORÊT. By exposing the natural body’s raw power and vulnerability, this performance works to reimagine the birth of humanity through a sociological lens. Performed by dancers Matéo Chauchat, Marianne Gignac-Girard, Élian Mata, Naïla Rabel, Jean-Philippe Ung, and Jacqueline van de Geer. The next two pieces are created by Dana Dugan. In MEATmarket, Dugan aims to represent the fight for her humanity. In (trans)FIGURation, as an anthropomorphized molting cicada, Dugan’s movement is meant to embody feminist discourses on dehumanization, violence, motherhood, aging, and obsolescence.
