“Do trees have senses?” asks choregrapher Peter Bingham. “I have discovered that the underground is where the forest finds its connectivity. The uniformity of the forest above ground gives the impression that each tree stands alone. In fact, they are linked by communicating through intricate entwining root systems. I have been researching this new work with the dancers for the last couple of seasons. We have been working on using our senses as inspiration for making choreographic and improvisational choices. We have developed different sensory pathways to connect to each other in making these dances. Felt, seen, heard– all aspects of how the dancers are communicating.”

The Secret Life of Trees is presented as part of the Vancouver International Dance Festival. For tickets and more information visit vidf.ca.
