The National Ballet of Canada goes on tour with an exciting mixed programme featuring iconoclast choreographer William Forsythe’s the second detail, German creator Marco Goecke’s Spectre de la Rose and British choreographer Wayne McGregor’s sensational Chroma. All three works act to redefine the future of modern ballet and possibly rethink ballet’s meanings and potential. An evening not to be missed.
Le Petit Prince is both a perfect and a problematic choice. Perfect because the story is already furnished with all the necessary components for a conventional ballet, and problematic because Le Petit Prince is actually a dark and confusing book.
To watch Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal perform is to better understand the tireless athleticism and skill that high-voltage contemporary ballet demands.
