The timely theme of this year’s multidisciplinary Queer Arts Festival in Vancouver, now in its tenth year, is UnSettled, presenting works from a two-spirit perspective, exploring contemporary roles and experiences and the intersections between Indigenous and queer art milieus. The festival’s visual art exhibition, curated by Adrian Stimson and which has received excellent reviews in past years, will bring together two-spirit visual arts and explore their art and lived experiences. Dance and performance highlights include MSM [men seeking men] by Toronto-based lemonTree creations, a dance “deconstruction” inspired by online Grindr culture and set to transcripts of online conversations of men seeking men. In Greed and REsolve, Byron Chief-Moon and JP Longboat pair two works that focus the themes of commerce, greed and disenfranchisement.
