Ballet BC’s 30th anniversary season begins with works by three choreographers who are reshaping contemporary ballet. The electric opening program starts with the world premiere of Belgian-born choreographer Stijn CelisNew Work, a collaboration with Vancouver’s Chor Leoni male vocal ensemble. Up next is Canadian choreographic superstar Crystal Pite’s Solo Echo, a continuation of Pite’s lifelong exploration of tension and resolution. Lastly is Ballet BC Resident Choreographer Cayetano Soto’s Twenty Eight Thousand Waves. Premiering in 2014, Soto’s work focuses on resilience in the face of extremity and the human instinct for survival.
