Accompanied by Tchaikovsky’s famous music, Alberta Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker showcases the original choreography of Edmund Stripe. The Christmas ballet tells the classic story of Klara and her Nutcracker, their battle with the Rat King, and a sleigh ride that brings them to the realm of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Mounted by Alberta Ballet in 2008, Dangerous Liaisons is an epistolary exchange of manipulation, betrayal, greed and threats of public shaming: the story is fraught with ugly intentions and lurid schemes, told mostly in letters between two ex-lovers attempting to humiliate each other.
Everybody has a story. If you take the time to ask questions and listen, you might even uncover a piece of dance history. Here is one such gem. Meet Shirley Sommerville.
