Participants will learn the basic steps, some fancy jig steps, one square dance and one contra dance Métis style. Come prepared to dance, laugh and have a good time, as this is the essence of Métis dance. No experience necessary.
Guest Teacher: Wilfred Burton
Wilfred Burton is a retired Metis educator currently living in Saskatoon, SK. He spends his time writing children’s picture books, volunteering and promoting Metis culture.
Since its founding in 1986, New Dance Horizons has gained strength with each passing year. In 2002, it took its most ambitious step yet, organizing and presenting Stream of Dance, a three-day festival devoted to prairie dance.
Silent Survivors is the story of the Indian residential school experience told through song, traditional dance and creative expression.
