On October 27 Autobiography Edits, choreographed by Wayne McGregor with original score by electronic musician Jlin and performed by dancers from Company Wayne McGregor will be presented at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts in Toronto. The piece is part of Halloween High, one of two programs in Unsound does Halloween. The piece is an iteration of McGregor’s Autobiography, which was performed at The Sadler’s Wells Theatre this October.

According to the description on McGregor’s website, Autobiography Edits, “is a compact performance, bringing Company Wayne McGregor dancers to Jlin’s Unsound stage at Luminato festival, without the set and lighting of the full Autobiography performance.” Autobiography debuted at Sadler’s Wells in London, England on Oct 4. The piece is comprised of a fixed beginning and end with twenty-three sections that are sequenced for each performance by an algorithm based on the genetic code of the choreographer.

According to Mark Hammond, Vice President of Programming, Civic Theatres Toronto, “The inclusion of Wayne McGregor’s work in Unsound is a wonderful addition to our contemporary dance presentations and a special gift to dance audiences. In many ways, an ideal placement for his reintroduction to Toronto audiences given his close affinity to the Unsound ethos.”

Unsound is a Polish-born festival whose programming focuses on electronic music, with immersive events incorporating video art, lights and more. Unsound first came to Toronto in 2015 as part of Luminato festival. The 2017 presentation is co-produced by Unsound, Civic Theatres Toronto and Luminato.
