Created with the support of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, this tragic, yet hopeful tale honours the many stories, both told and untold, experienced by First Nations Residential School survivors and their families.

A decade in the making, this original work was commissioned by Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet and brought to life by an immensely talented team of Canada-based artists, including award-winning Canadian novelist Joseph Boyden, acclaimed choreographer Mark Godden, renowned Canadian composer Christos Hatzis. The ballet also features the powerful and heartfelt music of Inuk throat singer Tanya Tagaq and Stever Wood & The Northern Cree Singers.

Searing and sensitive, this emotional classical ballet is the love story of Annie and Gordon, a pair of contemporary Aboriginal young people coming to terms with a soul-destroying past. Going Home Star is an important ballet of our time.

An exclusive interview between choreographer Mark Godden and musician Christos Hatzis appeared in the October 2014 edition of The Dance Current as Going Home Star premiered.
