Public Energy Performing Arts co-presents Divergent Dances Peterborough, an outdoor aerial performance at Peterborough Square created by Anandam Dance Theatre’s Brandy Leary. The performance features dance artists Erin Ball, Opal Elchuck, Nicole Malbeuf, and Thomas Vacarro. Divergent Dances explores themes of listening, non-spectacle, and how bodies move in public space. Brandy Leary is the Fall Artist in Residence at Public Energy Performing Arts.
Contemporaneity 2.0 is a curating and presenting series with an aim of “unsettling the widespread use of ‘contemporary’ as describing European and white American theatrical dance.” The series opened with Gitanjali Kolanad’s Gandhari. Using Gandhari, a mythological character from the Mahabharata and the martial art form of kalaripayatuu as dual channels of influence and expression, the work is an examination of loss and its effects on the body.
Dancers Brian Solomon and Brendan Wyatt star as The Great Farini and The Great Blondin, two rivals in the world of circus performance, in Sharon B. Moore’s The Great Farini Project.
