Public Energy presents the full-length premiere of a dancing, singing, roller coaster ride of a play created by some of the city’s most talented artists. First seen in workshop form at the Theatre On King, damned be this transmigration has been re-envisioned for the Market Hall stage with new set design and dance numbers. We follow New York writer Don Marquis banging out his column on a vintage typewriter while his literary creations – Archy, the sophisticated cockroach and Mehitabel, a morallycareless alley cat – alternately distract him from his work and give his life purpose. With original songs and period music from the swinging twenties, it’s a hot shot of entertainment amidst Don Marquis’s pointed social commentary, that means as much today as it did when it was written.
