September 28-29 septembre 2015
The Canadian Dance Assembly’s National Conference takes place September 28-29, 2015 at Harbourfront Centre. This year’s conference, Creating a Culture of Success: Getting Good Ideas off the Ground, focuses on examples of creativity and collaboration that have resulted in success stories in the Canadian dance community. The dance sector has several companies and individuals that have thrived during times of economic uncertainty. How did they do it? How can the rest of the sector learn from their creativity and ingenuity? Through a series of panel discussions, keynote presentations, and workshops, attendees will exchange best practices and take away practical tools to help animate their own communities.
This year’s conference offers two keynote speakers. Susan Chalmers-Gauvin, CEO and Co-Founder of the Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada will be the Administrative Keynote, while Montreal’s Luca ‘Lazylegz’ Patuelli, founder/creator of the ILL-Abilities™ Crew, and this year’s International Dance Day Ambassador, will be the artistic keynote.
Conference topics range from advocacy, finance, community hubs, residencies and education, all taking a closer look at how individuals and organizations have navigated their way to finding success in these areas. Conference sessions will be accented with showcase performances hosted by the Dance TO Showcase group. Additionally, a newly formed festival, Fall for Dance North, will provide additional opportunity to take in dance performances. The culmination of all this activity will result in Toronto Dance Week; a lively and inspiring week in the city attracting our colleagues and friends from across the country.
