Toronto Dance Theatre begins its 2020/21 Season with the film of Bin Chicken by award-winning choreographer and director Alyssa Martin. Inspired by Martin’s visit to Sydney, Australia, when she became fascinated with a gaggle of striking white birds, known as “bin chickens” due to their voracious appetite for trash, the work looks at the parallels between the lives of these much-maligned birds and the behaviour of the rest of us. Bin Chicken premieres through TDT’s YouTube channel, and it will be followed by an after-party on Zoom. The film will be open to the public and donations are being encouraged to support Toronto Dance Theatre’s artistic programming.
An inquisitive storyline begins as a pomegranate flips through the air. In response, the ensemble rises to engage in a syncopated choreographic trail.
