TORONTO (November 12, 2018)- Dance Media Group/ Groupe Danse Media (DMG), the organization that encompasses The Dance Current magazine (print and online), a digital archive of writing on Canadian dance and a suite of educational projects and partnerships, is excited to announce that the Charitable Directorate of the Canadian Revenue Agency has granted the organization charitable status.

Dance Media Group is currently reviewing the oppertunities this new status can provide and is determining how best to exercise its potential for fundraising. Megan Andrews, Founding Editor, had this to say: “We appreciate the time and energy so many people contributed to this lengthy process. Receiving charitable status in our twentieth year tops off our celebration of this organization and everything it has achieved. We look forward to diversifying support for our work and increasing the long-term impact of Dance Media Group on behlaf of the extended dance community and the Canadian public.

Marilyn Biderman, Chair of Board of Directors stated, “The core mandate of the Dance Media Group has always been education. In creating and sustaining a media hub comprised of many parts- a magazine, a website, an online archive and educational outreach projects- we have functioned as a central point of contact for the general dance public and professionals alike. We’re hoping to expand our activities to provide more great content and programming for our audiences.”

The Dance Current was founded in 1998 by Megan Andrews and a team of Toronto-based dance professionals and incorporated in Ontario in 2002 as a not-for-profit dance media organization under Dance Media Group. As the leading not-for-profit dance media organization in Canada, DMG facilitates engaged and critical observations about the art, practices, and people involved in dance; comissions, curates and publishes original Canadian content; and produces educational and dance literacy projects in collaboration with dance artists, educators and instituions.
