Mikaela Demers is one of our editorial interns handling video. She was born in Elliot Lake, Ontario, but spent most of her childhood in Manitowaning on Manitoulin Island. At seventeen she began making weekly trips to Sudbury to take lyrical dance class at the Diane Boulais Studio eventually moving there to train with Denise Vitali and her youth-directed contemporary/modern dance company, earthdancers. Mikaela entered York University’s dance program in 2010 and says in her fourth year she is “looking forward to finding more performance opportunities and beginning a student-driven conditioning club.” Outside of dance Mikaela likes camping, gardening, baking and volunteering; within dance, she’s inspired by her environment and dancefilm as a genre. Mikaela posted the fun, Friday videos at thedancecurrent.com/videos from 2012-2013.
