Call for New Board Members

Dance Media Group/Groupe Danse Média (DMG/GDM) is seeking new board members.

The Board operates under a policy governance model with a commitment to the financial and social wellbeing of the organization and it’s flagship publication The Dance Current.


Directors are committed to at least two years on a volunteer basis.

Director Responsibilities

  • Acts in a position of trust to the community
  • Effective governance of the organization
  • Strategic planning
  • Developing policies, which enable the Board and Staff to make responsible decisions

Ideal Candidate

  • Knowledge of policy development, accounting and/or charitable law
  • Experience in resource development (human resources, fundraising, programs)
  • Previous board governance experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated interest in the mission and vision of the organization
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work on a team with like-minded individuals

Major Duties

  • Governing organization using the broad policies developed by the Board
  • Abstain from any conflict of interest as per the conflict interest policy
  • Stay informed of the organizations services and publicly support them
  • Collaborate with staff to establish goals, objectives, and priorities of the organization
  • Guide policy review and development of the Board
  • Promote organization through community networking, etc.
  • Be fiscally accountable and engage in quarterly financial review
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the organization
  • Be accountable and support board recruitment efforts
  • Prepare for, participate in, and follow-up on Board discussions
  • Support all resource development activities undertaken by the Board


Board members dedicate an average of 5-10 hours a month to Board meetings and committees and are expected to attend bi-monthly board meetings, annual general meeting and annual retreat. All board members are required to participate in resource development activities including an annual donation of $50

  • An organizational overview including mission, policies and structure
  • Board member role description
  • Most recent financial statements and/or a report from the auditor

Following your review of these documents, a board member will arrange a phone or in-person meeting/interview to discuss the role and next steps.
