Alien Rituals

10 Gates Dancing’s TRUST at the Vancouver International Dance Festival By Rachel Silver Maddock

The program describes the duet as a “requiem for wood and stone” – a “primitive mystery of vulnerability and transformation.” With or without these descriptions, the setup places us immediately inside some kind of ritual or spiritual journey, though its parameters and significance are unclear.

Robinson Repurposed

Tedd Robinson’s FACETS By Mercedes Déziel-Hupé FACETS

The piece is a creative retrospective in which the choreographer explores his recurrent themes of balance, material sculpture and movement, and risk-taking with humour and courage. As introspective solos, it was all the more interesting to see different performers interpret the personal nature of Rokudo, Rigmarole and Redd, nouveau genre.

Dancers Dwelling

By Andrea Rabinovitch Things Near and Far

Cohorts in the Vancouver dance scene, Anne Cooper, Ziyian Kwan and Ron Stewart have known and worked with each other for thirty years. But creating a concert together, things near & far at the Firehall Arts Centre, was a first. Choreographers Josh Martin and Tedd Robinson brought Dwelling, the title of both pieces, to fruition.
