Royal Winnipeg Ballet

Sleeping Beauty By Julye Huggins

Coming up April 4th through 6th, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet (RWB) kicks off an Ontario tour of Sleeping Beauty by touching down at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. They then head to Belleville (April 8), Kingston (April 9), Mississauga (April 10), Hamilton (April 12) and London (April 13).This epic fairytale ballet of good versus evil is conveyed through the 1890 dreamlike choreography of Marius Petipa, accompanied by Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s enduring score. This video drums up a little history from the RWB, featuring former principal dancer Evelyn Hart performing the Rose Adagio in the role of Princess Aurora. This role will be played by current RWB dancers Jo-Ann Sundermeier (April 4 & 6) and Amanda Green (April 5). Hart’s illustrious career is adorned with honours including induction into Canada’s Walk of Fame (2000), as well as being made Companion of the Order of Canada (1994), Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (2006) and Member of the Order of Manitoba (2006).Be sure to check out the February 2006 issue of The Dance Current magazine for an item on Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet.
