Romeo and Juliette

By Julye Huggins

Starting tomorrow, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal are opening their October run of Romeo and Juliette. The modern and the classic converge in the work of French choreographer Jean-Christophe Maillot, who offers a “re-reading of the Verona lovers’ tragedy spotlights the duality and ambiguity of adolescence, with characters torn between contradictory impulses - tenderness and violence, fear and anger.” Here’s a look from behind the scenes as they prepare for their seven evening performances: October 15, 16, 17, 22, 24, 29, 30.
