Peter Quanz: Rodin/Claudel

By Julye Huggins

Continuing this week at Place des Arts (October 13th through 29th), Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal presents its world premiere run of Rodin/Claudel. Choreographer Peter Quanz has longed to create a work inspired by the romance and artwork of August Rodin and Camille Claudel. His narrative ballet touches on the intimate lives of the artists and their passion for sculpture. Quanz is quoted on the company’s website: “I believe that their respective work influenced each other, and that their relationship intensified the emotional content of their sculpture. Camille Claudel was a tragic figure, a victim of her time and of the men who were closest to her. This is a story of passion, love and betrayal.”Check out the March 2009 issue of The Dance Current print magazine for an article on Peter Quanz and his work with the National Ballet of Canada.
