Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur 2014

This summer’s Festival des arts de Saint-Sauveur (FASS) in Quebec’s Laurentian region, July 31-August 9, is a major event. In addition to the announcement that artistic director Anik Bissonnette will pass the baton to ballet star Guillaume Côté next year (Côté helped with the 2014 programming in preparation), FASS will also feature the Martha Graham Dance Company on their first visit to Québec. The New York City company, founded in 1926, will perform Diversion of Angels (1948) and Errand (1947) by Graham as well as Lamentation Variations (2007) – a collection of choreographic responses to Graham dancing sequences inspired by her iconic solo Lamentation – and Echo, a new work for the company by Andonis Foniadakis. Other feature dance presentations include a mixed program of Côté’s choreography and performance with company dancers from ProArteDanza and The National Ballet of Canada; La Compagnie Marie Chouinard with Mouvement and 24 Préludes de Chopin; and International Ballet: A Night with the Stars, which will showcase NBoC Principal Guest Artist Svetlana Lunkina (Bolshoi Ballet), Toronto-born Jason Reilly (Stuttgart Ballet), Yukichi Hattori (Albert Ballet) and Tara Williamson (Ballet BC), to name a few of the highlighted international ballet stars.
