Eryn Dace Trudell is a mother of two as well as a dance artist who strives to support her family by creating meaningful work. Her MamaDances (first presented as part of Montréal’s Festival Quartier Danse seven years ago) is an art-business hybrid, currently offering dance programs for Mom and Baby (for mothers with babies two to twelve months) and Parent and Child (for parents with children one to three years old) across Montréal. The classes offer a holistic approach to contemporary movement and provide a space for parent-child bonding, as well as social connectivity.

Trudell, who was raised in Ontario, is now extending MamaDances to Toronto. “My intention is to expand MamaDances across Canada and beyond,” says Trudell. “According to our business plan, Toronto meets all the criteria and thus seems the obvious place to start. MamaDances has the potential to infuse a community with new outreach possibilities, provide a new parallel career for dance artists or transitioning dancers and will support local venues and organizations. My personal attachment to Toronto is key. I am, ultimately, a Toronto choreographer and working here gives me an opportunity to connect with my people and my extended family. This modality brings lots of love.”

MamaDances Toronto classes will now be offered in several neighbourhoods, including Queen West, the Beach, Etobicoke, Thornhill, Danforth, Regent Park, Liberty Village, the Annex, Bloor West Village and Downtown. Toronto teachers include Kate Alton, Jessica Runge, Robin McPhail-Demsey, Alexia D’Amato and Alison Keery. An introductory series will run for four weeks in March, followed by an eight to ten week session later in the spring. Parents interested in registering can find more information here. No previous dance experience is required.
