After twenty-nine years as artistic director of Calgary-based Decidedly Jazz Danceworks (DJD), Vicki Adams Willis is handing over the reins to longtime company member Kimberley Cooper. Willis, who founded DJD in 1984 with Hannah Stilwell and Michèle Moss, commented that “Kim’s deep understanding of the jazz idiom” and “unwavering respect and immense passion for DJD” will greatly benefit the company. Cooper has been with DJD since 1989 and has been artistic associate/resident choreographer since 2001. Willis will stay on as founder-in-residence as the company heads into its thirtieth season and gets closer to realizing its dream of a Decidedly Jazz Dance Centre.
