CONVERSATIONS AND PERFORMANCES AROUND TODAY’S ABORIGINAL DANCE IN QUÉBEC. “Based on tradition or classical techniques, incorporating theatrical elements or archaic codes, today’s Aboriginal dancemakers contribute to the creative surge that is launching First Nations artists on stages across the country. Another story needs telling, another tale that must first and foremost make space for this long oppressed, hindered, negated body; to rediscover the ancestral body, this atavistic memory still present in the contemporary body. For Aboriginal choreographers and dancers, art is a means of expression and identity assertion. Beyond the academic, they offer us a path to joy, the pleasure found in dancing. Over three days, we will discuss Quebec Aboriginal contemporary dance, its many and varied expressions, its singular process, and the creative surge it brings to the stage. We want to talk about it, but also to see and experience it. This first forum includes shows, workshops, discussions and performances, all in the search for distinctive worlds. We invite you to join us. Skennen : kowa. All are welcome.” - Tangente & Ondinnok
